In April 2020 and in the interest of legacy I wrote a Wikipedia entry recording the thoughts and notable works of Harveywetdog. I admit I was ignorant of the rules concerning self promotion on Wikipedia and consequently my entry was correctly deleted and my account expunged from the system. As a result my original words and links were sadly lost but nevertheless here is a rewrite. Perhaps when I'm gone someone will be able to enter it onto Wikipedia as a fitting epitaph for my time on the Harveywetdog Project.
Harveywetdog will be heading to Weston Park on Sunday 7th April when the world’s leading riders, including Zara Tindall, Oliver Townend, William Fox-Pitt, Andrew Nicholson, Nicola Wilson and Izzy Taylor, will be competing at this highly popular event which takes place on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th April.
The superbly constructed course, designed by Janet Plant will run over a thousand acres of rolling wooded parkland and the fences are solid and imposing. Each class runs over a different course designed to be testing but fair. Janet Plant comments “it continues to be a great privilege to design on this wonderful estate and we are delighted to welcome IEC Equine Solutions as a new sponsor, giving a tremendous boost to the event”. Zoe Cappaert of IEC Equine Solutions commented “we are proud and excited to be involved and are looking forward to attending what promises to be an exciting weekend”.
On Saturday we welcome the Charles Owen Pony Trial, which we have run for a number of years’ - this has attracted a large number of entries and will prove to be an exciting competition”.
The course for the Novice classes – sponsored by Moores Metals and Landsbrook Stud plus the Charles Owen Pony Trials will run on the central park giving wonderful views from the vantage points which is greatly appreciated by owners and spectators. The Show Jumping will again be situated near the Kidney Pool. There will be a separate arena each day which will produce good going for everyone and the course will be designed by Sue Barrett who has a great deal of experience.
Two Advanced Sections:
For many of the top riders in the Rookery Park Stud and Tile Choice Advanced sections this acts as an ideal ‘warm –up’ for the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in May. The course includes a ‘new look’ at the Sunken Road and The Water Splash and the combinations are designed to test the best with escape routes when needed.
These Advanced horses will Show Jump from 1.30 pm and run Cross Country from 2 pm so be sure to be in the park early – this should be an exciting afternoon! The Open Intermediate sections are kindly sponsored by Rookery Park Stud and IEC Equine Solutions.
Once again the hotly contested Saracen Horse Feeds and NAF Open Intermediate U21 and U18 sections will see our young riders and the NAF Juniors competing for a place in the British European teams this summer. In addition there will be two Intermediate sections all battling for a place in the British Intermediate Championship qualifier.
