If Harveywetdog did Wikipedia

In April 2020 and in the interest of legacy I wrote a Wikipedia entry recording the thoughts and notable works of Harveywetdog. I admit I was ignorant of the rules concerning self promotion on Wikipedia and consequently my entry was correctly deleted and my account expunged from the system. As a result my original words and links were sadly lost but nevertheless here is a rewrite. Perhaps when I'm gone someone will be able to enter it onto Wikipedia as a fitting epitaph for my time on the Harveywetdog Project.

Bramham shines the spotlight on equine welfare charity

While Christmas is just around the corner, we’ll soon be ringing in the New Year which means the 2023 edition of the Bramham International Horse Trials is only six months away! Running 8 – 11 June, Yorkshire’s largest equestrian event will be back with all the elements – plus a few new additions – which make it one of the best loved fixtures in the calendar for everyone. Each year, we partner with a charity and in 2023, it’s a very special group. Formed as Covid struck, Here4Horses is a small charity run entirely by volunteers who offer rescue, refuge and rehabilitation to horses, ponies, donkeys and mules.

Based in Crook, County Durham, here4horses was set up by a group of horse lovers who
wanted to help horses in the northeast, the area of England worst hit by equine welfare
cases. Chairman of the Board of Trustees Nicola Endersby is one of the founding members
and in her work as a veterinary surgeon was only too aware of the cruelty horses can face
having been involved with a number of cases with the RSPCA.

Any horse or pony taken into their care remains in the charity’s ownership for life but the
team works with their equines to rehabilitate them with a view to going out to a foster or
loan home. Television presenter Matt Baker is their President, and the centre currently
provides a home for around 48 horses. With running costs of around £6000 per month,
their need to fundraise is ever present.

Nicola commented; “We’re extremely grateful to the team at Bramham for this
opportunity. We might be a small charity but we have huge ambitions and sincerely hope
this partnership helps boost our profile and gets some more exposure around the work we
do – and of course raise some much needed funds. We’re looking forward to joining
everyone at Bramham with a tradestand, including a ‘shop and drop’ facility and
showcasing the tireless work of our volunteers to safeguard a better future for all equines.”

The team at Bramham has already been putting plans in place for 2023 and all the
favourite competitions will be back! The showcase CCI3*-L, the Under 25 CCI4*-L and the
Land Rover CCI4*-S will all take pride of place in the timetable. Throughout the four days,
the NAF Five Star BE 80 National Championships, top-flight showjumping classes, Pony
Club showjumping and mounted games, showing, youngstock, breeding and hunter
showing competitions and the ever-popular Saracen Horse Feeds Arena Eventing with
90cm and 100cm classes will also feature.

The equine action is of course set in one of the most stunning parks in Yorkshire which
also hosts a bustling trade stand village of over 130 outlets, a food hall and catering and
refreshment options for every taste. Bramham is very proud of our green credentials and
in 2023 we’ll be working hard to continue to reduce the carbon footprint of the event on
our environment – more news on that in the new year.

The Bramham Box Office opens on 1 February 2023 to secure tickets, memberships and
camping passes but why not get ahead with a gift voucher for the perfect Christmas gift.
You can purchase £10 and £20 options to be used as part or full payment towards tickets
online by 30 May 2023.

You can follow the work of here4horses by signing up for their newsletter and with
Christmas coming, you can purchase hay, carrots or treats for the horses and ponies at
Farnley Farm – sponsorship of one of their residents would make a great gift for someone
– with a Bramham gift voucher of course - or simply make a cash donation. Visit
www.here4horses.org.uk to learn more, meet their horses and ponies and see the amazing
work they do.

Event Director Nicholas Pritchard said, “It was amazing to have everyone back to the park
in June after missing two years and we’re already pretty excited about 2023. We’ll make
sure we retain all the elements our visitor love about the event but we’re always looking
for new features to make the Bramham experience better and better. We’re delighted to
welcome the team at here4horses to Bramham and look forward to working with them as
we build towards June 2023. I’d like to thank all our supporters, competitors, volunteers
and fans for your unstinting support and wish you a very happy Christmas and prosperous
New Year.”
